2 Feb 2019 (w17): The basics of baby poop

Meconium	Greenish-black, tarry, sticky stool that looks like motor oil	Meconium is made up of amniotic fluid, mucus, skin cells, and other stuff ingested in utera. This is usually passed out within 24 hours after birth.
Transitional stool	Dark green-brown and less sticky	When baby is 2-4 days old and start digesting early breast-milk or formula, baby is likely to pass out transitional stool
Breastfeed stool	Seedy yellow or slightly green stool with a mushy or creamy consistency, sweet smelling	If baby is breastfeed, the stool will indicate that he/she is not receiving mature breast-milk instead of colostrum or transitional milk. It may be runny enough to resemble diarrhea. Stool color may vary depending on what you are (high-iron). If you see bright green and frothy stool, your baby is getting too much foremilk (the low calorie milk that comes first in a feeding), and not enough hindmilk (the higher-fat, super nutrious stuff).
Formula stool	Tan-brown, yellow-brown, or green-brown stools that is thick and firm, resembles peanut butter or toothpaste	Formula fed babies pass out pungent smelling stool due to casein in the milk. Stool is similar to older babies whp are eating solid food.
Iron-fortified stool	Seedy dark green or almost black stool	Stools make turn dark green if you or your baby has a high iron intake. If baby's poop looks blackish and there is no surplus in iron.
Diarrhea	Yellow, green or brown with a watery consistency	Diarrhea is a sign of infection or allergy, and can lead to dehydration. If your baby is 3 months old or younger, has more than 3 diarrhoea-filled dispers, or contain trances of blood or mucus, consult a paediatrician immediately.
Constipation	Hard stools	Constipation happens when baby lack tolerance to something in breast milk or fomula.
Stool with mucus	Slimy stools	This sometimes happens when baby has the flu, since mucus often goes undigested.
Pale stool	Pale yellow or white stools	Certain medication, such as antibiotics, may cause your baby to pass pale colored stools.
Bloody stool		Blood in a baby's stool may be bright red or black (which means it's been digested).
